U16 Elite Girls Receive Fair Play Award at Region III Tournament

Following their 1-0 win against the Mississippi state champions earlier this week in Oklahoma, our U16 Elite girls team, coached by Dick Hiller, were awarded the tournament’s Fair Play Award.  Of the 12 teams representing the entire state of South Carolina at the Region III tournament, our team was the only South Carolina team to be so honored.

To recap their trip, the girls persevered during the tournament in terrible conditions (it rained for 20 straight days in OK and most games were delayed, rained out, shortened or played in very muddy conditions.  Their game on Friday was postponed and we played two on Saturday. In the first game the team lost 1-0 to the Clay County United, FL, and they also lost the second game 3-0 to Sting Dallas Royal 91, NTX a strong team that eventually made it to the semi-finals. On Sunday, the team ended on a high note with a win 1-0 against Gulf Coast United, MS.

Indeed, a fitting ending and honor for such a great group of girls who were crowned South Carolina State Champions after overcoming tremendous adversity following a tragic automobile accident injuring two of their teammates and taking the life of a third, Ashley Dent.  Girls, please know we are incredibly proud of each and every one of you!
