Striking Down Barriers, Striking Up Friendships
South Carolina United Strikers is committed to supporting soccer players whose needs are not met by other Columbia United programs. Our program is designed for players who may require modifications and accommodations to the game in order to fully participate. Players will learn how the game is played and develop sportsmanship, teamwork and soccer skills. Friendship, fun and participation will be emphasized.
The design of the program will group players according to areas of ability. Players will not be assigned to teams, but incorporated into pools. These pools of players with similar abilities allow flexibility on the field on game days for coaches and facilitators to best meet every player’s needs. All players will have the same color jersey and be on the “same team”: the Strikers. Players will then be grouped into pools on game days, and these groupings will be fluid from week to week. Players will be given different game vests each week for small-sided matches. Games will alternate weekly between soccer facilities throughout the Midlands.
The intention of South Carolina United Strikers is to promote the love of the game, the development of soccer skills, camaraderie through soccer, and most importantly to have fun. The focus is not upon competition, and accordingly scores will not be kept. The Strikers will always be the winner!
Also, according to the philosophy of South Carolina United FC which provides a continuum of soccer development for all soccer players, there will be efforts made to transition players with higher ability or soccer skills into the recreation program with accommodations as needed.
*The South Carolina United Strikers Program recognizes that due to the dynamics involved on a soccer field there is an inherent risk of injury. Every effort will be made to minimize injury, but all players and families should be aware of this risk.
