South Carolina United FC

Important Information about the Upcoming Fall Season (East and West!)

Thank you for everyone's patience! The merger of CSC and NECSA has resulted in a tremendous number of new players and the implementation of new processes to get everyone registered and assigned to new teams. This posting is made to answer some recurring questions we have received. We apologize for any miscommunication or lack of communication during the past few weeks. Please take time to read this email. It should answer most all of your questions!

West Side Recreation:

Practices begin August 28th. Games begin September 9th. There will be one weekend where the West side teams do not play. This is the weekend of September 30th - October 2nd. The Carolina Cup Tournament will be played at the Ballentine and BB&T Complex that weekend. The regular season will end November 4th or 11th for all teams. The season ending date will vary based on each team's schedule. U7 and older teams will play a tournament the week after the regular season ends, November 12th - 18th. For the U8 and older teams this tournament will include a championship round from the top two teams from each side of town. The winner will be declared the "CUFC City Champions" in each age group. The winner in the U7 age group on each side of town will be declared the "CUFC League Champions".

The Carolina Cup Tournament is a Classic Teams only tournament. Our recreational teams will not be allowed to attend. We will be hosting a recreational tournament in the spring that our teams may attend. More information will be provided on that tournament when we get closer to it.

Most of the rosters have been provided to the coaches. The uniforms will be given to the coaches next week for delivery to the players during practice. They are ready and are in the process of being distributed to the appropriate people for delivery.

The game schedule will be posted for all U10 and under teams this weekend. All U12 and older teams will be playing on the same schedule as the East side of town. The game schedules will be posted online at www.columbiaunitedfc.com. Go to our homepage, click on "Recreational Soccer" on the left hand menu list, click on "Schedules" and once that page opens, click on Leagues! Look for the teams under the "West" designations, i.e. U10 Coed West

East Side Recreation:

Games begin September 16th. The East side teams will not have any matches played on Saturday, September 9th since we have needed additional time to permit children who wanted to register time to register. Additionally, certain age group teams in the West League and teams in the East League need to finish their regular seasons on the same weekends in order to permit us to have a club-wide championship. As such, the East side will be playing the weekend of Carolina Cup Tournament and the West side teams will not.

The Carolina Cup Tournament is a Select and Academy Teams only tournament. Our Recreational teams are not able to attend the Carolina Cup. However, we will be hosting a recreational tournament in the spring that our recreational teams may play in. More information will be provided on that tournament later this Fall.

Most all rosters for the East side coaches and players are now posted at Soccer Plus.

The East League's Mandatory Coaches Meeting will be held on Wednesday night September 6th at the Spring Valley Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall (back left side of building - enter from around back).  The U4, U6 and U7 coaches will meet from 6:00 to 7:30.  The U8 through U19 coaches will meet from 7:30 until 9:00.    Each team's photograph package and team uniforms will be given to the team's coach during the Mandatory Coach's Meeting. The Coach of each team will choose his team's practice slot during the Mandatory Coaches Meeting. We will also cover all the safety training required by Columbia United FC, Richland County, SCYSA and USYSA. The meeting should last less than 1 hour. This meeting does not include the training sessions of the Youth Training Modules. They are addressed below.

Match schedule for the East side teams and West side U12 and older teams will be posted on our website over the Labor Day weekend at www.columbiaunitedfc.com. Go to our homepage, click on "Recreational Soccer" on the left hand menu list, click on "Schedules" and once that page opens, click on Leagues! Be sure to look for the teams under the "East" designations, i.e. U10 Coed East

I hope this email helps everyone. Our club is made up of a great group of volunteers that work very hard to make it a success and we want as many children who want to play to get the chance to do so each season - even if that means we needed to pull back the throttle a bit! moving forward, we will, of course, always strive to improve our processes and
communications!

Notice to All Coaches and Assistant Coaches:

First , do not forget we will have the above mentioned Mandatory Coaches Meeting on Wednesday September 6th in the Fellowship Hall of the Spring Valley Presbyterian Church located on Sparkleberry Lane across from Spring Valley High School  (back left side of building - enter from around back).  The U4, U6 and U7 coaches will meet from 6:00 to 7:30.  The U8 through U19 coaches will meet from 7:30 until 9:00. This meeting is mandatory for all East side Coaches and Assistant Coaches. Any Coach or Assistant Coach from the West side that missed his or her meetings the weekend of August 26th must attend also.

Second, on Sunday September 10th there will be Mandatory Youth Module Training session given at Polo Road from 2:00 to 5:00. Tripp Miller will conduct the U4 - U7 Youth Module Training. Greg Vallee will conduct the U8-U12 Youth Module Training. These Youth Module Training is required for all Coaches of U4 to U12 teams. For coaches of U14, U16 and U19 teams, you are asked to take the SCYSA "E" level course which will be given by SCYSA State Director of Coaching, Van Taylor (Head Coach of Lander University) at Polo Road Soccer Complex on Friday evening September 8, Saturday September 9 and Sunday afternoon September 10. Everyone who has taken the course from Van is glad they have done so. He is a super coach and provides you with great coaching advise and coaching training.

Any coach who has already attended a training session in the past ("E" license, state diploma etc) is exempt from this training. These classes are required by SCYSA to help you become a better coach and become more knowledgeable about how to coach children of a specific age/development level.

Third, for any team that ends up with a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday night practice slot at the Mandatory Coaches Meeting, your team will be allowed to practice at Polo Road on Saturday September 9th or Sunday September 10th. This practice will be on a first come first serve basis. In that manner, every team will have a chance to have at least two practices before the first match weekend which, as mentioned above, will be Saturday, September 16th.

Again, thank you for your patience. We are gearing up for a fun-filled first recreational season for Columbia United FC!
