Thursday night, November 16, 2007, saw a first for the club as the 91 Boys Elite team won the club’s first Region III Premier League Title.  The league, which is comprised of the 12 finest teams SC,GA, NC and FL have to offer, is the highest level of competition any team can compete in.  After playing in the league last year and finishing 11th, no one could have expected the fairy-tale run to the title that occurred this year.  Starting the season 1-2 the team rattled off an amazing 7 consecutive wins to go into the final game knowing a win would hand them the title and an automatic berth to the 2008 Region 3 Regionals.  The only team to stand in the way was CESA 91 Premier, the 3-time SC state champs and local rival to CUFC.  After beating CESA in the CESA Classic this past September, the boys were confidant they could win but knew a tough game was to be expected.  The confidence was not misplaced as the boys won the game 2-0 in front of over 200 CUFC members and fans.

 

Coach Rob Strickland said "I am very pleased and proud for the boys. This will be a memory that will last forever for them.  This season has been fantastic for all of the 91 boys within the club.  Our Crescent team made it to the Classic Cup Semi-final last week after a great regular season and the Palmetto boys have a great seed going into State Cup after a fine regular season in the Challenge league.  I would also like to thank everyone who came out to the support the boys.  The club spirit has never been higher and that support gave our team that little extra energy we required tonight."

 

The season is not over yet for the 91 Boys Elite.  They will start State Cup play Dec 1st against Lexington United as they go for what would be a famous league and Cup Double.
