South Carolina United FC

President's Message (October 23, 2007)

As a member of one of South Carolina’s largest and most respected youth soccer clubs,  we have “raised the bar” in 2007-2008 across all programs in the club in an effort to provide you better service, better soccer and bigger smiles!

At the grassroots level, we have assigned two of our most experienced administrators and best soccer minds to head up this year’s Recreational soccer program.  Co-Director of Soccer Tripp Miller is serving as the club’s East Recreational Manager and USSF A licensed coach Rob Strickland is serving as West Recreational Manager.  With over 1,700 recreational players this fall, Columbia United FC’s recreational soccer program is emphasizing family fun and is proving to be the recreational soccer program of choice throughout the Greater Columbia area!  If you are not yet a member, we invite you to come join in the fun.

For the highly motivated and competitive 6-11 year-old players, our Academy program, led by USSF A licensed trainer, Greg Vallee, is growing by leaps and bounds developing quality, future Select program players.  Based upon last year’s success and our training model, this year’s Academy program has grown to 235 players, thus enabling us to present 20 Academy teams with players coming from as far away as Aiken, Florence and Rock Hill to wear the Columbia United FC badge!

Just as the Academy Program has experienced growth and an influx of new quality players calling Columbia United FC home, so too has the club’s Select program.  This year, Columbia United has 31 Select teams participating in the U13-U18 divisions in either Region III Premier League, the South Carolina Challenge League or the President’s Medal Soccer League, all fully sanctioned USYSA/SCYSA Leagues.  With 6 teams playing in the highly-competitive Region III Premier League against the southeast’s best teams from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, our Select teams include players from Augusta, Georgia in the south, Charleston and Florence in the east, Rock Hill in the north and Greenwood and beyond in the west.  Having raised the bar in terms of coaching licensure requirements, our current select coaching staff includes 5 coaches possessing a USSF A or equivalent license, 7 possessing a USSF B license or NSCAA equivalent, and 12 possessing a USSF C license or equivalent.  At the same times the club is keeping our participation fees as low as possible to ensure all player have the ability to play and develop at a level commensurate with their skill.

To better serve you and to improve communication and response time, we have this month set up our new digital telephone system.  For questions, concerns, comments and information, call tollfree, 1-866-CUFC-WIN (946-2832).  All messages left will be promptly forwarded to your intended recipient and returned in a timely manner.

Finally, please know we very much look forward to seeing all our friends from across the state at this year’s Publix American Cup, Publix Presidents’ Medal Cup and Publix Challenge Cup which are being hosted at Columbia United FC.  Also, don’t forget to mark your calendars for our March Madness Recreation Soccer Tournament March 1-2 and our 9th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Cup March 15-16.  As always, we will do our best to ensure you have a great time here in the Capital City !
