The 94 Girls Elite team,coached by Matt Smith and Erik Hartvigsen, lost a heartbreaker to the Weston Fury 1-0 on an unexplainable goal in the 25th minute in the semifinals at the Labor Day weekend Disney Qualifiers in Orlando, FL.  Despite outshooting the Fury 12 (shots on goal) to 4, our girls just couldn’t find the back of the net against the number two team in Florida.  It was a sad end to a great weekend of well played soccer by our youngest Elite girls’ team.

 

The girls represented the club well.  They were the only Columbia United team to play on Monday in the Semi-Finals of the 2007 Disney Showcase Qualifier.  The team surrendered only one goal in the tournament and played three straight shutouts before the loss in the semifinals.  They celebrated wins over the FC America, Kumba team 2-0 on Saturday and on Sunday, they beat Countryside Lightning 4-0, and Melbourne Beach Tsunami 3-0 (ended up fourth in the tournament and was third rated team in one Florida poll)

 

 This elite team represents our first academy trained players to play select soccer for Columbia United FC.  We are proud of these girls and the direction of our Academy and Select programs.
